Parachute games

Parachute games for early childhood

The parachute is not a daunting activity as it encourages working together and 98% of children love it. If you do not own a parachute any large piece of light material, like a sheet, will do.
  • You do not need to learn special new games as it can be as simple as listening and following commands - shake, up and down, slow, faster...
  • Remember you are in charge so a good thing to teach early on is "FREEZE" so you can retain control of the activity if some children become over excited.
  • Throwing soft, light toys on top is always enjoyed by the group who work to bounce them high.
  • We also enjoy cotton wool balls or pom poms that all fly off and get retrieved by the children.
  • Consider singing some songs you already know and adding actions such as shaking the parachute, lifting it up and down, or having some participants sitting underneath while others lift the chute up and down. Examples you may know are:
  • The dingly dangly scarecrow where some children crouch down under chute and jump up at the appropriate time in the song - great for anticipation and timing.
  • Row, row, row your boat. Sit and pull chute back and forth - great cooperation and muscle strength
  • See Saw Marjory Daw. Sit and pull chute back and forth.
  • Ring a ring a rosie. Stand and walk around holding the chute in one hand, on tishoo shake the chute on all fall down lower chute to ground - helps working as a team.
More songs and games for the parachute, such as popcorn, high ball and freeze, in early childhood.

I've not had much experience with the world of parachutes. I would like to know some games though.
