Gardening with children

Through gardening children learn so many things: love of nature and being outdoors, responsibility, self confidence, working together, reasoning and discovery.
There are so many ways that children can join in and help with the gardening:  deciding what to plant, visiting the plant nursery, digging the soil, planting, watering, weeding, harvesting and cooking.

A one year old loves to dig and water and a two year old may also love to weed and plant and pick the fruits, veges, herbs or flowers. This is a wonderful activity that avid adult gardeners can do with children and can be achieved in pots on your balcony or courtyard if you don't have a garden.

I get my kids to help in the garden. It's essential as far as I'm concerned. They should learn where food comes from. #CountryKids

Gardening with kids is a great way for them to appreciate nature and also to discover foods they might not otherwise want to dry without having grown them. Then there are all the caring, responsibility and sensory learning opportunities you so rightly point out. I always think it is great when schools have a garden section for the children to plant. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.

We love gardening with our little Monkey, he adores helping us dig and plant and water the garden. As he gets older hopefully we will be able to do lots more with him :) #countrykids
